A friend wrote that as is well known in physics, every action is
countered by a reaction. Therefore, by the barbaric attack against
Ghaza, Bush has ensured that a number of Israelis will soon be killed by
suicide-bombers. I found his opinion harmful. This is my response
------------------------------
Dear Friend
The Newton law of action and reaction is a law of nature which is not
exerted through the intermediary of a mind influencing a brain and
leading to the reaction. It is a brainless, mindless reaction. We,
humans, can do better than that.
We can st least ask the question: IS THE EYE FOR EYE REACTION, THE BEST
FOR THE INTERESTS OF THE PALESTINIAN CAUSE? Is letting the enemy hurt
like we do, is that what will bring back the refugees? The answer is not
so simple. If the reaction of suicide-bombers was the return of the
refugees, I would have reluctantly approved it. But if, as I can
demonstrate, it delays the return of the refugees, then may be we must
look for a different reaction.
The law of physics says that the reaction has to be equal to the action
and directed in the opposite direction. A brainless and mindless
reaction would be similar. My friend, please do not forget that
Palestinians do have wonderful brains and, specially if encouraged,
could used them to determine THAT REACTION WHICH IS IN THE BEST
INTERESTS OF THE PALESTINIANS.
If allowed to, by your lists, I will present such reaction. Eye-for-eye
and tit-for-tat can be used by anyone. A correct reaction, based on a
correct evaluation of the situation, takes into consideration Sharon's
determination at PREVENTING THE STOP OF SUICIDE-BOMBERS, at SHARON'S
HOPE AND EXPECTATION, THAT THERE WOULD BE A REACTION AND THAT IT
WOULD CONSIST IN FURTHER SUICIDE-BOMBERS.
Just now, the balance of international public opinion is with the
Palestinians as victims of the barbaric attack on Ghaza. Sharon's needs
an eye-for-eye reaction so as to be able to re-establish the balance of
public opinion in his favour. Will HAMAS give him as a gift the expected
reaction?
Friendly,
Clement
